Just in time for San Diego Comic-Con International 2012, Jayson creator Jeff Krell debuts Jayson Comics #2, containing three new chapters from his upcoming graphic novel Jayson Gets a Job. Picking up where Jayson Comics #1 left off, issue 2 sees Krell’s alter ego finally landing a job at his ex-lover Walter’s company — only to learn that Walter’s husband Steven will be his boss!

Jayson strips and stories have entertained generations of readers with the tribulations of gay liberal-arts graduate Jayson Callowhill, his roommate Arena Stage, and serial entrepreneur Robyn Ricketts, the drag queen next door. Told in the style of a teen humor comic, it’s no surprise that Jayson is now being called the “spiritual godfather to [Archie Comics’] Kevin Keller.”

During Comic-Con 2012, Krell will have a dedicated space at the Prism Comics booth (#2144), which represents him at comic-book conventions and throughout the year. Krell will also join the “all-star” lineup during the Gays in Comics 25th anniversary panel on Saturday night.

Jayson debuted in 1983 in the Philadelphia Gay News as a six-panel comic strip. He soon graduated to Gay Comix and Meatmen, where he appeared throughout the ’80s and ’90s. A syndicated version of the strip soon followed. In 1998, Krell collaborated with songwriters Romanovsky & Phillips on a Jayson musical that enjoyed a successful off-Broadway run. In 2005 a pair of anthologies (Jayson: Best of the 80s and Jayson: Best of the 90s) proved so successful that Krell launched a series of original graphic novels, bringing his iconic characters into the 21st century. The first, Jayson Goes to Hollywood, received nominations in the 2009 Comics Buyer’s Guide Fan Awards for best writer and best graphic novel. The sequel, Jayson Gets a Job, will launch later this year in conjunction with Jayson’s 30th anniversary in comics.

Jayson products can be found at Amazon.com, IndyPlanet, iTunes, and the Prism Comics Online Shop.
